Question: What makes a successful grant application?

Answer: A successful grant applicant has researched the guidelines and application, and when possible talked with a grant officer. Thus, the applicant knows their project is a good match for the funding source. Their narrative answers application questions thoroughly yet succinctly. They persuade the review panel that the project is of high artistic merit, has community value, and will make significant impact if given the grant as a revenue source. Letters of support speak to the artist’s abilities and the project’s importance. The budget computes and the narrative is edited to perfection. The application is well organized, delivered on time, and neatly presented.
